Neptune Pool

Posted by Photographs by M.E. (Tustin, United States) on 17 July 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio.

This is Hearst Castle's outdoor pool better known as the Neptune Pool. The construction of this pool spanned between 1924 to 1936. Three swimming pools were built on this site, each successively larger. The final version of the pool as it stands today is 104 feet long, 58 feet wide and 95 feet wide at alcove. The west end it is 3.5 feet deep and at the drains it is 10 feet deep. Heated by an oil burning heating system, The Neptune Pool holds 345,000 gallons of water. Decorating the pools and colonnades are the light-veined Vermont marble and four 17-century Italian bas-reliefs. For more information please visit Hearst Castle.
